Radio BiBaBiDi Vol. 14

das bierbeben
LCD Soundsystem recently released an internet-only collection of b-sides and live tracks called Introns. It's pretty good, and I really liked Fk's Disco Infiltrator Dub version of "Disco Infiltrator."
Asobi Seksu is back, and much improved. They're more sure of themselves, I'd say, and their unique style of shoegaze is ... invigorating. It's not shoegaze in the conventional sense -- lots more post-punk influences and prominent bass lines mixed in here -- but it's shoegaze undoubtedly.
Justice's 2005 Waters of Nazareth has finally been released on CD, and man do I love this thing. It's like a more evolved Daft Punk with a sort of baroque, classical edge. But by no means less dance-oriented.
Lastly, Das Bierbeben -- a labelmate of Apparat (the guy who collaborated on Ellen Allien's latest LP, Orchestra of Bubble) -- has released her debut LP, Alles Fallt. I'll let you judge this singer for yourself, but does the German Bjork sound like a good way to put her style? Certainly moreaccessiblee than Bjork, but she has quite a unique voice and songwriting style, indeed.
Radio BiBaBiDi Vol. 14
**tracklist**
1 ... Justice -- Let There Be Light (Demo)
2 ... DAT Politics -- Turn My Brain Off
3 ... LCD Soundsystem -- Disco Infiltrator (Fk's Disco Infiltrator Dub)
4 ... Das Bierbeben -- Im Kreis
5 ... Asobi Seksu -- Thursday

Radio BiBaBiDi Vol. 13

dat politics
The first mix to be posted on the newly designed blog! Hope that like ... makes it better or something.
There's been a lot of buzz about the new album by the Rapture, and apparently this track, "W.A.Y.U.H." is a real leak. Who knows. Sounds like them, but not as good. I guess it reminds me more of a Radio 4 track (a band which I despise) more than the Rapture.
DAT Politics is one of my favorite signings to Chicks On Speed Records. They've got the raw energy of Plastics, but they're not just your average electroclash group. Wackier and more demented-sounding. I enjoy them.
Lastly, I don't know what to think about these Franz Ferdinand remixes in general. There are, seemingly, dozens of them, and I don't really know what purpose they play. Just extra stuff to put on the singles, I guess. Regardless, a lot of them are good, and they breath new life into the tracks I've heard [perhaps] too many times.
Radio BiBaBiDi Vol. 13
**tracklist**
1 ... Minifer & Khah-linh -- Ti
2 ... DAT Politics -- Viper Eyes
3 ... New Young Pony Club -- Get Dancing
4 ... the Rapture -- W.A.Y.U.H.
5 ... Franz Ferdinand -- Outsiders (Isolee Remix)

What do you think of the new design? I completely changed it, and even made a BiBaBiDi emblem. Or something. Any bugs? Any issues? I would like to hear some feedback on this ...
And for your listening pleasure ...

So this is a weird mix of stuff I've got here.
All of these bands and artists are very cool, but I want to point out the Yell and Angie Reed in particular. The Yell is a brand-spanking-new band from Sheffield. They are the wittiness of the Fall, the punk attitude of the Cramps, and the glossy sheen of Franz Ferdinand rolled into one. I like.
Angie Reed is a German voice dubber. And, apparently, an artist signed to Chicks On Speed Records. She's got that hyperactive sound of Chicks On Speed, but she adds in more funk and smoother arrangements. Like a cooler version of Chicks On Speed ... less jagged and aggressive, but still, by all means, full of energy (or speed?)

1 ... Ursula 1000 - Boop
2 ... Goldfrapp - Fly Away (Ladytron Remix)
3 ... the Yell - Let's

You all know Metronomy, right? He's the hot new electronica artist from Brighton, and he's uh ... taking the world by storm with his whacked out mad house dance tracks. While his debut album, Pip Paine (Pay The £5000 You Owe), came out last year (I wrote a review of the album for ExplodingPlastic, by the way) he's been keeping busy for all of '06, doing remixes for such bands as Franz Ferdinand and ... Gorillaz! Everything he does has this sort of lopsided sound to it, like not only the record is warped, but all the samples and instruments.
REKID, AKA Matt Edwards, has done remix work for many pop musicians as well, including Kylie Minogue. But under his REKID moniker, he's been doing specifically house music. But his style is definitely unique, combining the dark elements of disco and dub, and slowing it all down to the point where he's edging on cardiac arrest.
Check out the new mix, but download the REKID and Gorillaz tracks for future listening!

And another mix!
New Young Pony Club is sweeping ... well, small NYC record shops. Which is something in my book. They're one hell of an elusive band ... they're homepage just says they'll be up and running soon, and no one seems to know much more about them aside from the fact that they've got quite a mixed up sound! It reminds me so strongly of post-punk, but there's way too much DFA vibe here ... too much electroclash topping on those jagged guitars.
Radio BiBaBiDi Vol. 10
**tracklist**
1 ... the Go! Team -- Ladyflash (Simian Mobile Disco Remix)
2 ... BangBang -- Shoot the Model
3 ... Digitalism -- Zdarlight (Moonlight Remix)

radio biabdbi vol. 9: new deal
I started my Japanese-themed mixes on an impulse. And, as is usual with impulses, it didn't last. It's not all my fault -- the dudes in Shiubuya are in the wrong here because they're not making awesome tracks anymore! -- but regardless, I feel like I've got a good thing goin' with these mixes.
I would like to continue them. So, this week we take a complete turn around ... these tracks are all (a) new, (b) awesome, and (c) make me sweaty.

This one doesn't have anything "new" per se. I wanted to make a mix that had a different sort of theme than my previous ones (hence the OOIOO songs and amnjk track), but I put one Yukari Fresh track on and added a pretty new Escalator Records release, too (Caede). Enjoy!
Radio BiBaBiDi Vol. 8

2 ... Caede -- Maple Soap
3 ... amnjk -- 2jigen gangsta!!

Back By Popular Demand: Buffalo Daughter

buffalo daughter
A certain Craopo requested that I post some more Buffalo Daughter tracks, from their new (and awesome album), Euphorica. Half of me says I shouldn't post these, but the other half of me wants to share stuff like this with all of you. And since I'm pretty under the radar (please tell me I'm wrong, though!), I don't see how posting a few more tracks would hurt ...
You're all gonna ... buy the album ... right? Right? Euphorica!

So I went to Osaka for two days. I went to see Kiiiiiii and a bunch of other cool bands last night. This new mix has two songs by Kiiiiiii. They're really cool ... they gave me a bunch of free stuff and signed the DVD I bought. Definitely understandable why their first real release was a DVD ... they must be seen to be understood. I'll try to post a video I took later ... until then, enjoy the mix!
UPDATE ... I found some .avis ... (The World According to) Carp and Sheep, P.H.O.B., and Words of Wisdom. And you can download a video which I took myself right here.

I apologize for posting that bad file of Radio BiBaBiDi Vol. 5. But you get the idea of what I was trying to play for you guys ... it was the first three songs that I really wanted to play.
Here's another mix that I put together to make up for my mistake. The first track is cool because it comes from the soundtrack to Summer Timemachine Blues, a new teen movie in Japan. The soundtrack was made by Halfby and Strauss.
The Pizzicato Five track is a cover of "GOOD," a song by Plastics (fantastic early new-wave group ... the B-52s through Japanese X-Ray glasses). The Miniflex track is from the Henry compilation released by Escalator Records and features vocals by Yukari Fresh. MacDonald Duck Eclair is a weird electroclash/punk-rock trio. This song is from their latest album ... they toned down a bit. And I don't need to explain Yukari Fresh ...

**tracklist**
1 ... Halfby & Strauss -- Boys & Girls
2 ... Pizzicato Five -- GOOD
