Lio, "Pop Model"

It doesn't get any better than Lio's yé-yé-inflected yuppie pop of the mid-80s. A commodified, mainstream corollary to the duck-footed synth-funk of contemporaries the era like Les Rita Mitsouko.

Pop Idol is her edgiest album, a delirium of bubblegum new wave and post-disco electro built for beaches rather than bars. (It was recorded in Rio de Janeiro and Los Angeles, so this is only to be expected.) Remarkably, John Cale was involved in the production of some of the tracks, "Dallas" being one.

I'm tempted to continue, but I'm breaking a cardinal rule by writing about someone rather established, so I'll simply pass this sparkly wonder along to you and leave it there.
